Sivalingadasa Swamikal

Sivalingadasa Swamikal was very lucky to got a chance to visit Gurudevan at his younger age to accompany and serve him and become the first disciple of Gurudevan,  Sivalingadasa Swamikal was born in 1866 (Karkidakam 1042) in Pooyam Star. His name was Kochappipillai and pet name as ‘Kunju’. Kunju and his mother are devotees of Lord Vishnu; young Kunju was more attracted to religious matters because his mother was always with prayers and poojas.

 Young Sivalingadasa swamikal saw Grudevan near to Neyyar River, Aruvipuram. Gurudevan was praying near to the rock, Kunju was attracted the devine Gurudevan, and gradually the relationship grown up, Kunju bring food for Gurudevan, the orthodox family members are against Kunju and strictly gave warning to him, young kunju not listened to them, they closed the door behind him, Kunju joined with Gurudevan and he accompanied with him to many places.
Gurudevan send to him for higher studies to the great Sanskrit Scholar Perunelli Krishnan Vaidyar and for Sanskrit Grammar Moothakunnathu Venketeswara Sasthri. He played a major role to the consecration of Shiva temple in Aruvipuram in 1888.

SIVALINGADASA SWAMIKAL- SAINT DISCIPLES OF GURUDEVAN

   In 1905 Kochappipillai accepted the ascetic way of life from Guru and accepted the name as Sivalingadasa Swamikal. In Aruvipuram Sivaligadasa Swamikal was in close connection with Mahakavi Kumaran asan, At the time of Samadhi of Sivalingadasa swamikal Asan wrote the poem named “Parannu poya Hamsam” (The flown away Swan) in tribute to swamikal
Sivaligadasa Swamikal was deep knowledge in Sanskrit, Tamil and Malayalam he wrote around 35 books and spiritual compositions mainly Gurushtakam, Vedanthakairali, Sharadhashtakam, Balopadesam, Balavinjapanam, Vimshathi, Sivabakthiprakasham, Sthrimithrashathakam, sambavasthavam etc…
Main disciples of Sivalingadasa swamikal are Ramananda Swamikal and Sadguru Malayala mahirshi.

When Guru moved to Varkala he took sivalingadasa swamikal with him. In 1919 Swami attained Samadhi.
